For several days, Dallas news media forewarned residents of the impending doom that is Icepocalypse 2013. Our city (myself included) went into a frenzy of panic buying and gas-tank filling. You know it was a truly desperate situation when even the choices for healthy food became scarce:
The conditions turned out to be just as poor as the meteorologists predicted: Dallas froze over. Schools closed. The Dallas Marathon was canceled. Nearly 4,000 people slept at the DFW Airport. Road conditions have been near-impossible to manage safely, with hundreds of accidents and stalled vehicles — even people stuck in traffic in excess of 10 hours. TEN HOURS…IN A NON-MOVING VEHICLE!!!! Needless to say, the TopGolf home office closed, along with all three of our DFW locations in Allen, Dallas and The Colony.
So, what’s a girl to do? Throw on her PJs, bake her sorrows away, and turn to Twitter for entertainment, of course! Yesterday made for some fun conversations in the TopGolf Twitterverse. See our epic war with the Dallas Zoo against Winter Storm Cleon after the jump…
Last week, I attended a business luncheon with TopGolf’s CEO, Tom. As we were entering the networking event, a woman who looked familiar to me quickly approached. She explained that she was anxious to meet Tom because she had a special story to share with him. She went on to explain that she and her now-husband had their first date at TopGolf. A few months ago, she’d emailed me to schedule her engagement photo shoot at — you guessed it — TopGolf. Following the wedding, Jannie and John decided that their first date as a married couple should also be at TopGolf. Jannie admitted she had been looking forward to this luncheon because she hoped to take a picture with the TopGolf CEO, bringing her story full circle. Then it dawned on me why this woman was so familiar; we used to volunteer together! Talk about a small world.
Anyway, Jannie got her photo with Tom and took the time to answer some fun questions about her TopGolf love affair. See her engagement photos and more after the jump…
Working for TopGolf is like a dream come true. Not only do I get to work for an innovative and growing company, but I have the opportunity to lend a hand in the community that I call my second home — Dallas, Texas. During a normal work week, each location receives anywhere from 10-20 donation inquiries through our charitable donations page online. As a site, we try to get involved with our local hospitals, food banks, chambers and schools to ensure everyone feels the love. When I think about community involvement, two events pop into my head. Working with a Children’s Medical Center teen event and donating time to the North Texas Food Bank.
The Grand Opening VIP Party is always the last hoorah of each new site opening. The Perfect 10 campaign for the 10th location in The Colony, TX has lived up to its name!
To quote CultureMap Dallas, “The Colony may have been the last place in Dallas-Fort Worth you’d expect to find a star-studded affair. But TopGolf brought its A-game.” (A-list Athletes Take a Swing at TopGolf The Colony Grand Opening)
So let me tell you how it all came together. If you haven’t seen the news reports or the stories online, the party was a “Who’s Who” of local Dallas sports and celebrities.
It was the party heard around the world.
Well at least in the U.S and U.K. It was the party of the year, where we shared our biggest milestone to date. Our 10th location was officially open, and our 10th millionth guest had walked through the doors of TopGolf! We celebrated this momentous occasion with all nine sites throwing a large party that included prizes, a $10,000 hole-in-one competition, a live DJ, $1.50 domestic pints, and “The Tribute,” which was four hot dog sliders that represented both the U.K. and U.S. TopGolf locations. I mean, come on…when do you see curry on a hotdog?! We all had some great highlights of the night that we would love to share!
TopGolf couldn’t celebrate 10 locations and 10 million guests without celebrating the Associates who have made this success possible. If you’ve been to TopGolf even once, then you have probably witnessed first-hand the silly, personable, friendly and off-the-wall personalities of our Associates. They sing. They dance. They play pranks. They hustle. They give hugs and high fives. All in all, they are just really happy and positive people! They are the secret ingredient responsible for the energetic and fun atmosphere that is TopGolf.
We caught up with some of our “old timers,” or the people who have been employed at each TopGolf site the longest. Meet the people who have helped shape TopGolf’s culture at each location…
