Blanket forts and spiked hot cocoa are fantastic, but most of us are starting to wonder, “When the heck will I see the sun again?” Snow, ice and the general feeling of hypothermia permanently setting in are ensuring that this coming summer will be welcomed with excessive enthusiasm.
What this summer will be like at TopGolf…
Hot Days (and Dates)
As soon as jorts and tanktops are a possibility, everyone will be busting out their summer clothes and sporting anything and everything that doesn’t resemble a parka. The prediction: no amount of heat or humidity will stop TopGolfers from gettin’ out and gettin’ social!
That’s right. Beer specials will be embraced as everyone and their cousin hits the best place open til 1 or 2 a.m. on weekends. (I’m still talking about TopGolf.) Pitch black can’t stop the party on our super-lighted tee lines.
The game of golf has always been a difficult one to play consistently well. Only a handful of people hit the big time, but with our amazing interactive targets for feedback on your game, there is no better way to start playing! With the help of our amazing TopGolf Coaching team, we can get you started in the right way and help you develop your game to reduce your TopGolf handicap.
For the player just starting, the set-up position and the general swing shape are the most important things to understand.
Below are two sequences that will show you step by step how to take the perfect grip and then how to stand as well as some key positions that will positively impact your game.
For the purposes of this article, we will go through the steps for a right-handed golfer. For left-handed golfers, the information is the same – just do the opposite in each step.
One of the most common questions a recruiter is asked is, “What makes a successful job interview?” More often than not, this question is answered with a list of things the job candidate can do to “wow” the interviewer. At TopGolf, we take a different approach. What makes a successful interview for us is largely measured by how effectively we communicate the TopGolf culture to our candidates during the interview. This way, our candidates can decide for themselves, “Is this the place for me?”
We utilize a “best-in-class” approach to everything we do at TopGolf, and it starts with our interview process. One of the ways we can support an environment and culture where people feel connected, motivated and successful is to share that culture with our candidates from the moment they meet us.
Our unique recruitment events have received wide acclaim that we attribute to our Associates’ incredible ability to model our culture of FUN! At our hourly recruitment events, we invite our candidates to experience our energy, our commitment to an outstanding guest experience, our respect for each other, and our enthusiasm for the TopGolf brand! We fearlessly share with candidates that this is a culture we are passionate about, and we encourage them to ask themselves, “Does this resonate with me? Do I connect with this?” If our candidates can answer those questions honestly, then no matter if the answer is YES or NO, we have achieved a successful job interview.
The reason is simple. Working with passion is a non-negotiable here at TopGolf. We celebrate our teammates, our brand, our guests and our culture. Connecting with this supports our Associates to have a positive experience while working at TopGolf. And for us, the goal of the interview is simple: to achieve an amazing partnership with our Associates and to provide them with a culture and experience that is better than anything they may have expected!

It’s not very often that people leave me speechless, but one of our amazing Associates at TopGolf Wood Dale did just that. Jeanne Gratzl took the stage at our Associate Appreciation event and thanked TopGolf for the experiences and friendships she has been fortunate enough to have because of her position with us. As a token of her appreciation, she donated $500 in TopGolf’s name to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to provide children with pajamas during their stay at the hospital. It may seem like pajamas are trivial things to those children battling cancer, but to be able to have a little comfort and something that makes a stay at the hospital just a little bit better, it makes all the difference in the world.
Then, she took it even further to show her appreciation for all that her TopGolf family has done to make her smile. She made a second donation to Operation Smile. This fantastic organization provides free surgeries to repair cleft lips for children around the world.
As if you didn’t already love Jeanne, you will now…Not only did she donate in the name of TopGolf Wood Dale to these great organizations, but she took that token of appreciation one step further to our extended family at the TopGolf Home Office located in Dallas. She has also donated to the Operation Smile chapter in Dallas, in the name of our Home Office Team and our extended TopGolf families to give her thanks for all that TopGolf has done for her personally and professionally.
Jeanne has been a tremendous asset to the TopGolf team, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed. She has been given the honor of winning the TopGolf Hospitality Star Award two years in a row, a completely peer-nominated award. People like Jeanne are the reason that the world is a better place, and we’re honored to have her in the TopGolf family.
When I was in school, I dreaded math classes like the plague. I somehow always managed to get by, but my frustration toward formulas, geometric shapes and long division never subsided. That all changed in college when I reached Statistics 101. Somehow everything in that class made sense to me. Suddenly, the numbers weren’t just numbers. They told a story. And what PR person doesn’t love a good story?
Ever since that class, I became an analytics and statistics junkie. And ever since joining TopGolf, I have been highly impressed by the story our company’s statistics show. I thought I would share some of our most fun statistics with you here.
- TopGolf welcomed 2,281,893 visitors in 2013, a 52% increase from 2012. At the rate we are opening TopGolf locations, we expect to exceed the NFL’s attendance by the year 2017. We have already introduced more people to the game of golf than any other concept.
- In 2013, 151 million balls were hit, an 84% increase from the previous year. Since our guest visits increased by 52%, this means that our guests are playing more than they did in 2012. That number of golf balls could also fill 302 school busses.
When building a site as large and extravagant as TopGolf, you get to experience some pretty interesting situations that you wouldn’t normally have at your average job. Notice I said “average job” because TopGolf is nowhere close to average; it’s above and beyond anything you could ever expect.
While under construction, our departments have been given trailers to work out of until we take over the building. Being in close quarters with three departments in one trailer makes you bond pretty quickly, as well as learn a thing or two about personal space. The trailer I work out of has the membership, marketing, and sales/events teams. Not a day goes by that we don’t share inside jokes, talk in random accents mid-conversation, or share lunch at new restaurants in the area. We also can’t go anywhere in our TopGolf gear without people stopping and talking to us about when we open and what to expect, only adding to the excitement building here in Spring, Texas.
